Compatibility with Craft 3
UPDATE: Freeform 2 beta and Calendar 2 beta are now available in the Craft 3 Plugin Store!
As you already know, Craft 3 RC became available recently. We have been working hard to update Freeform and Calendar to be compatible with Craft 3. A lot of things changed in Craft 3, and due to the complex nature of our plugins, it has required a great deal of time to convert them. That said, we're excited about the improvements Craft 3 brings, and are looking forward to getting Freeform and Calendar available to you soon!
As I mentioned already, development on Freeform and Calendar is already underway, and has been for a while. We're anticipating that our plugins will be ready as betas sometime in late January, 2018. Once they're ready, they will likely become available in the Craft Plugin Store as "trials" that will need to be purchased (when using in production) once the official GA release of Craft 3 happens April 4, 2018. This is because the Plugin Store currently does not allow commercial plugins to be purchased, but will be available for GA release.
Many of you have been wondering what happens to your existing or future purchases for our plugins on Craft 2. Any purchase of Freeform and Calendar for Craft 2 that is less than 12 months old at time of Craft 3 GA launch, will receive the remaining balance of that time on Craft 3 upon request (unless there is some way for us to automate this for all customers). So for example, if you purchased Freeform on November 15th, 2017, any time after the Craft 3 GA launch, you can contact us to have your license moved to the Craft 3 Plugin Store, where you'll receive the duration of your 12 month license (until November 15th, 2018). This functionality will likely not be available until or close to Craft 3 GA release, so we likely will not be able to handle these requests until then. In the meantime you will be able to just install the trial version.
Once your 12 month term is finished (whether that's a new purchase or the remaining time from a Craft 2 license), you will be allowed to continue using Freeform and Calendar, but you will not be eligible for new updates and official product support until you purchase a renewal. We estimate that renewals will be roughly 30% of the cost of purchasing new. The "new" purchase prices of our plugins are expected to remain the same as they currently are for Craft 2.
Craft 3 GA is still a little ways away, so as we learn more about its progress, we'll be sure to update this post. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.
